SRINAGAR, Aug 13: For the promotion of various sports activities and boosting the talent of the youth, Jammu and Kashmir Police has been sustaining and nurturing different sports activities in the State, which has helped production of skilled young players in various sports activities and other games, besides development of self discipline and sportsmanship among the players.
This was disclosed by the Director General of Police (DGP), K Rajendra Kumar, while addressing the concluding function of first District Rifle Shooting Championship held at Khalsa High School here today. He said that Jammu and Kashmir Police has been promoting sports in the State and as a part of its activities, various sports events are organized in every corner of the State to nurture the youth and provide them platform to refine their talent. He said our aim is to promote sports culture and produce young professional players in different sports disciplines, who would represent the State at the national and international levels.
Mr Rajendra said “shooting is the sports which has brought laurels to the country in the last three Olympic games and shooters from J&K should focus on this game. JKP would help the shooters to hone their talent and excel at various platforms”.
On the occasion, Mr. Rajendra congratulated the boys and girls, who participated in the 3-day long Championship and advised them to participate in such events. The championship was organized by Srinagar District Rifle Association, under the aegis of Jammu and Kashmir Rifle Association. In all 80 students both boys and girls from various educational institutions of Srinagar including Presentation Convent, Tyndle Biscoe, Khalsa High School, Green Valley and Harvard Educational Society participated in the Championship.
Mr Rajendra disclosed that selected shooters, who excelled in the Championship, would participate at the State Level Shooting Championship being held at Jammu. He stressed that the shooters who excelled in the championship would be imparted further training so that they would be able to compete at national and international levels. He said necessary game related equipment would also be provided to the School management.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the ADGP, Dilbag Singh, who is also President of J&K Rifle Association, threw light on organising such an event for the student’s community. He said that J&K Rifle Association, taking the initiative of organising the championship in summer capital also, is focussing to conduct such events further to inspire the youth towards shooting competition. More such events would be organised in future in various parts of the State, he added. He thanked the Principal and management of the School in organising the sports event.
Later, the prize ceremony was held and Mr. Rajendra honoured the winners, who got 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions in the championship. Arbaz Khan, Kartik Mehta, Junaid Bashir and Amit Tej won Gold in the event under different categories.
