Rakesh becomes Powerman, Surmeet excels in women section

JAMMU, Jan 21: Rakesh Kumar and Surmeet Kour Soni became as Powerman and Powerwomen of State respectively in the State Bench-Press and Federation-Cup Pow-erlifting Championship (M&W) Equipped, organized by J&K Sports Powerlifting Association at RKM Gym, Upper Gummat, Kanji House, here.
The Championship was held to pick the players for the upcoming National Bench-Press and Federation Cup Powerlifting Championship to be held at Riat, Himachal Pradesh from February 27 to March 1, 2016.
Over150 players participated in this championship, which was concluded by Om Prakash Bhagat, Additional Secretary to Governor.
He was escorted by the general secretary of the Assciation, Rajan Jain. The chief guest distributed the medals and trophies among the powerlifters on the occasion.
In women category of Bench-Press Championship, Surmeet Kour Soni, Harmeet Kour, Irvinder Kour and Megha Jain won gold medals, while Achint Kour won silver medal, while in men’s category, Pawan Kumar, Rakesh Kumar, Sahil Verma, Kewal Krishan and Narender Pal Singh, Gourav, Varundeep Sharma, Mridual Ghai, Vikramjeet Singh and Rohit Salaria won gold medals.
In Federation Cup Championship men’s category, Rakesh Kumar, Kewal Krishan,  Sandeep Kumar, Narinder Pal Singh, Varundeep Sharma, Roshan Sharma and VIkramjeet Singh won gold medal.
