JAMMU, June 25: Rakesh Goswami of Shivalik Mountaineering and Adventure Sports Club, Jammu has been unanimously elected as the President of District Mountaineering Association, Jammu in an election meeting held here at Press Club Jammu. Sonam Sidharth of Tawi Trekkers J&K was elected as General Secretary of the Association.
Whereas, Shawetica Khajuria of Tawi Trekkers J&K was unanimously elected as Senior Vice President, Navneet Gupta of Snow Trail Mountaineers, Jammu and Sushil Singh, avid trekkers were elected as Vice Presidents of the district association.
Shilpa Charak, an international sport climber and mountaineer was also unanimously elected as Joint Secretary while Narinder Singh, a senior mountaineer was elected as Treasurer of the Association.
Five members of the Executive body which included Sakshi Magotra and Sunil Chakharia, both trained mountaineers; Binderpal Singh, a trekker, Renu Sharma, a sports teacher and Gaurav, a trekker were also unanimously elected.
Ram Khajuria, senior Vice President of Mountaineering Association of J&K, was the Observer, Sumit Khajuria, vice President of Mountaineering Association of J&K, was the Returning Officer for the elections.
Sonam Sidharth, the newly elected General Secretary who has been the main organizer of the Himalayan Trekking Programmes organized by Tawi Trekkers J&K, said that very soon a meeting of the Association shall be held to devise ways and means to give more thrust to adventure activities especially trekking to make trekking a mass movement in Jammu district and to produce more quality mountaineers and champion sport climbers.
