JAMMU: The trains from Jammu Tawi Railway Station and Katra remained suspended on second consecutive day today in view of violence that erupted after the a CBI court yesterday found Dera Baba Ram Rahim guilty in a rape case.
”Eighteen trains were cancelled today from Jammu Tawi Railway Station and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Railway Station, Katra due to worsened Law and Order condition at Haryana and Punjab,” an official here said.
He said that 12 trains were cancelled from Jammu and six from Katra, adding, ”there is heavy rush of passengers at the platform.”
”The cancellation of trains depend upon situation in neighbouring states,” he added.
Meanwhile people rushed to the platform to cancel their bookings.
However, reports from Katra said that thousands of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrims were stranded at Katra due to cancellation of trains.
”Some of the pilgrims managed to reach destination by air after reaching Jammu but mostly are stranded and waiting for resumption of train service,” said a police official.
They said that bus service was also suspended from Jammu due to prevailing law and order situation in the neighbouring states. (AGENCIES)
