Ramnagar Post Office facing staff crisis

UDHAMPUR, Feb 27: The people of Ramnagar town and  adjoining areas are facing lost of problems as the Post Office at the town existing during Maharaja’s time is facing severe shortage of staff.
This Sub Divisional level Post office presently has just two clerks to run the show besides a postman. This Post office handles the transaction of nearly Rs 10 crore every month. It has 17 Sub Post offices under its jurisdiction. There are about 5000 recurring deposits and 10,000 saving accounts besides over 14000 fixed deposits in this Post Office. Two clerks are unable to handle the affairs of this over loaded branch.
For the last three and half years, the post of Post Master is lying vacant at Ramnagar. For any withdrawal or important work like death claims etc,  the people are made to move to Udhampur Head Post Office. It may take more than 4-5 months to settle death claims. There is shortage of bank branches in this area and the people mainly rely on the Post Office saving schemes.
Postal Superintendent Udhampur-Doda, Vijay Choudhary  when contacted said that there was already shortage of staff in most of the branches and he was helpless. He said when the staff is made available, the posts in these Post Offices will be filled up.
