KATHUA, Sept 28: Range Police Headquarters Jammu today organized final matches of Santolia (Seven Tiles) Tournament in boys’ and girls’ categories at Navodaya Vidyalaya, Basohli.
Shakti Kumar Pathak (DIG, JSK Range, Jammu) was the chief guest on the occasion while Shivdeep Singh (SSP Kathua) was guest of honour. Special guests were Rajinder Singh Katoch (SSP SO to DIG Jammu) and Ajit Singh Badwal (ADC Basohli).
BDC Basohli Sushma Jamwal, BDC Mahanpur Raj Singh, BDC Bhoond Sheetal Nagar Shankar Singh and BDC Dhar Mahanpur Sushma Karyal, Chairman Municipal Committee Basohli Somesh Sapolia and 28 Sarpanchs from different Panchayats were also present at the venue.
A total of 54 teams of boys and 31 teams of girls comprising approximately 750 students from far flung areas of district Kathua participated in the Tournament and today, 15 teams (8 teams of boys and 7 teams of girls) vied for the top position.
In boys’ category, Middle School Baddu beat Veer Savarkar Higher Secondary School Basohli by 8 points and won the final Santolia (Seven Tiles) match whereas in girls’ category, Girls High School Bahnore defeated Girls High School Doula by 6 points and won the final match.
The winning teams were awarded with mementoes, medals, certificates, Santolia kit, books, T-Shirts and a cash prize of Rs 5000 while the runner up teams were awarded with mementoes, medals, certificates, books, T-Shirts and a cash prize of Rs 3000.
The semifinal winner teams got a cash prize of Rs 2000 and runner up teams were awarded with a cash prize of Rs 1000, besides mementoes, medals and certificates.
All the participated teams were awarded with certificates.
Speaking on the occasion, DIG Shakti Kumar Pathak briefed the value and importance of sports and education in students’ life. He said that youth is the backbone of the society and students/youth should keep themselves away from the drugs and negative influence which is the main motive of the J&K Police to organizing such sports tournaments.
The whole event and its matches were conducted under the supervision of Rajinder Singh Katoch (SSP), Deputy SP Raman Kumar, Deputy SP RPHQ Jatinder Singh Sambyal, SI Suresh Kumar, ASI Jasbir Singh, ASI Tarsem Lal and ASI Deepak Sharma, under the overall guidance of DIG JSK Range.
