Rape accused ex-Army man arrested

SRINAGAR, Apr 7:  A former Army man who has been accused of raping a woman in North Kashmir’s Kupwara village has been arrested today.
An Army spokesman said Showkat Rasool Malik son of Gulam Rasool, who  was a soldier of Territorial Army unit in Kupwara, was arrested near village Zarhawra on charge of rape and was handed over by the locals to the Police Station Trehgam.
“Malik was enrolled into the TA unit of Army in Jan 2004 and on completion of 10 years of service, he was voluntarily disembodied from the unit on Apr 1, 2014,” the spokesman said, adding at the time of the incident he was not a serving soldier.
He added that Army deplores such an act committed by anybody.
