Rasool, Irfan, Shubam help JK to beat Assam by 4 wickets

GUWAHATI, Jan 1: Riding on brilliant allround display by skipper Parvez Rasool and Irfan Pathan,coupled with good batting show by Shubam Khajuria, Jammu and Kashmir drubbed Assam by 4 wickets to earn 6 points in the Ranji trophy Group C match at Barsapara stadium,here today.
Earlier, on Day one,J&K won the toss and put Assam into bat.Batting ist,Assam bundled out for paltry total of 128 runs.Mirnmoy dutta unbeaten 35 and Mukhtar Hussain 24 runs were the main scorers.From J&K Rohit Sharma and Umar Nazir took 3wickets each while Irfan Pathan and Rasikh Salam claimed 2 wickets each.In reply Jammu and Kashmir managed to scored 144 runs to earn a slender lead of 16 runs.Qamran Iqbal was the top scorer with 64 runs while Irfan Pathan and Kanaihya Wadhawan contributed 35 and 24 runs to the total respectively.For Assam Mukhtar Hussain was the pick of the bowlers who scalped 5 important wickets while Arup das bagged 3 wickets and Palab Kumar Das claimed 1.
Assam, in the second essay scored a decent total 245 runs on a bowling friendly strip.Opener Rishav Das top scored with 95 runs while Sarupam Purkayastha, Amit Sinha and Palab Kumar Das contributed 46,33 and 32 runs respectively. Chasing a target of 230 runs J&K began disastrously,losing opener Ahmad Banday on very ist ball of the innings.Then another opener Qamran Iqbal (13) and Kanaihya Wadhawan (0) also fell cheaply to put JK on troubling waters at 31/3 at one stage.Then Shubam Khajuria and Parveez Rasool salvaged a sinking ship making a partnership of 111 runs to take their side to home. Both the batsman scored 67 runs each.Irfan Pathan unbeaten (33) guided Jammu and Kashmir to victory.
