JAMMU, Nov 17: Skipper Parvez Rasool led from the front, while young Abdul Samad played 3rd consecutive unbeaten brisk knock, before Auqib Nabi & Abid Mushtaq displayed grit and opener Jatin Wadhawan showed guts as Jammu and Kashmir defeated formidable Saurashtra by 6 wickets in a thrilling contest of the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Cricket Tournament at CB Patel International ground, Surat in Gujarat.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, Saurashtra rode on a brilliant knock of 55 runs by Sheldon Jackson to score a fighting total of 149 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 7 wickets in the process. Sheldon struck 7 fours and 2 sixes in his knock, while Prerak Mankad and Kishan Parmar also contributed 31 and 28 runs to the total respectively.
From J&K, Auqib Nabi was the wrecker-in- chief, who took 4 important wickets by conceding 43 runs in his 4 overs, while Abid Mushtaq bagged 2 wickets by giving away just 11 runs in his 4 overs. Rasool also had economic figures of 4 overs for 22 runs.
In reply, J&K lost 3 quick wickets and were struggling at 33/3 in 4.2 overs, before Parvez Rasool and Jatin Wadhawan consolidated the innings and took the score to 82/4 in 11.5 overs when Jatin departed. However, the skipper who was going great guns found the better partner in Abdul Samad, who scored valuable 32 runs off 24 balls with the help of 2 sixes and 1 four. It was Samad’s 3rd unbeaten knock in the tournament. Rasool played a magnificent unbeaten innings of 59 runs off 40 balls, studded with 4 fours and 3 sixes. Earlier, in form Shubham Khajuria (9), Manzoor Dar (2) and Shubham Pundir (9) fell cheaply.
From Saurashtra, Chetan Sakariya took 2 wickets, while skipper Jaidev Unadkat and Vandit Jivrajani claimed one wicket each.
J&K will take on Gujarat in their last group match tomorrow.
