SURAT, Oct 15: Riding on Parveez Rasool’s five-wicket haul, J&K posted a 116-run victory over Goa in a Group C Ranji Trophy match and earn full six points at Lalabhai Contractor Stadium, here today.
Goa resumed on 22 for no loss, chasing 412, and openers Darshan Misal (42) and Swapnil Asnodkar (47) gave the team a good start by sharing a solid 87-run stand before medium pacer Samiullah Beigh got the breakthrough.
Misal’s dismissal triggered a collapse and Goa was suddenly reeling at 116 for four.
Rasool then ran through the line up to pick up his seventh five-wicket haul, finishing with impressive figures of five for 89.
Wicketkeeper Samar Dubhashi put up some resistance with an unbeaten 79, with the last two batsmen AG Pandrekar (20) and Felix Alemao (22) giving him company for close to 35 overs, but it was not enough to avoid the defeat in the end.
For J&K, Amir Aziz also bagged 2 wickets by giving away 54 runs in his 12 overs and Umar Nazir also claimed 1 wicket.
Skipper Mithun Manhas marshaled his fields’ man superbly and made significant bowling changes whenever needed.
J&K team was accompanied by Imraj Thakur as Manager, Rajesh Dhar as Media Manager and Prithvi Vaid as Joint Manager. Abdul Qayoom was Bowling Coach, while Majid Dar was Assistant Coach. Dr Ajaz Chiloo was physio while Mohammad was Team Trainer.
Meanwhile, JKCA President and Minister for Sports and Technical Education Imran Raza Ansari has congratulated the Mithun Manhas led J&K Ranji team for their spectacular win over Goa.
Ansari in a message to the team said, “It’s very heartening to see that the J&K Ranji Team has emerged victorious in its match against Goa. This win is a testimony to strong resolve, determination and hard work of our cricketers. It’s also commendable that the team has performed well as a unit inspite of many hardships and almost a ruined summer practice season.
