Rassana case verdict hailed by all

JAMMU, June 10: Leaders of different political parties have hailed the verdict announced by a Special Court in Rassana case of murder and rape of an eight-year old nomadic girl.
CPI (M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said that crime is a crime irrespective of criminal’s caste, colour and creed. “Unfortunately, some fringe elements had tried to communalise this incident but due to intervention of judiciary, people of the State and the country, they could not succeed,” he added.
Civil society and saner voices irrespective of affiliation and ideology, across the country, raised voice against this brutal act and today’s verdict is the victory of truth. Civil society has to act irrespective of ideological, political affiliation. Crime is crime, it should be condemned by one and all,” he further said.
Former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz has welcomed the court verdict and said that the same deserves to be appreciated by all citizens of India. “Among others, the J&K Police deserves appreciation for an unbiased investigation of the case, especially at the early stage of investigation while the team of lawyers fighting for the innocent child also deserves great appreciation,” he said.
Peoples Conference Chairman Sajad Gani Lone hailed the verdict and said that those convicted must be given strict punishment to set a strong deterrent for the perpetrators of such heinous crimes. “True justice for the 8-year-old will be when such crimes against the women stop in the society,” he said and also appreciated the role of J&K Police in the initial investigation and charge sheeting of the accused in the case.
Senior National Conference leader and former MLA Kangan Mian Altaf Ahmed has hailed the Pathankot court decision convicting six persons in the horrific gangrape-and-murder case and demanded more severe punishment to the guilty.
President J&K Peoples Movement and former IAS topper, Shah Faesal welcomed the court verdict and gave credit to J&K Police and the Judiciary for standing their ground in-spite of the political pressure. In a tweet, he said that politicization of this rape case was one of the most horrendous and shameful incidents of our time and those people who raised the communal bogey against the victim’s family deserve to be condemned.
JKPCC Chief Spokespe-rson Ravinder Sharma said that the law of land has prevailed and those found guilty have been punished. The most heinous crime against minor girl had shaken the conscience of every human being and all those who stood for justice to the victim. However those who exploited the situation arising out of this heinous crime for their vested interests need to explain their respective conducts, he added.
Congress leader Kadfeen Choudhary advocated death penalty for rapes and said that it is time for all sections of the society to ponder why children as old as 8 years aren’t safe in our society. “A system in which the polices accountability is fixed and enough fast track courts are there to ensure punishment to accused within six months has to be implemented at an earliest so that our women in our society feel secure enough to walk freely and work in a protected environment,” he stressed.
