JAMMU, Nov 26: Ravinder Khajuria Memorial Basketball Tournament, being organized by STC Jammu was inaugurated in an impressive function at MA Stadium, here today.
The tournament is held every year in the memory of Ravinder Khajuria one of the most loved Basketball coaches of the state.
Ranjeet Kalra, Member of Management Committee of Sports Authority of India Training Centre Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion and inaugurated the tournament.
Mr Kalra in his address while paying tributes to Late Ravinder Khajuria recalled his glorious contribution to the game of Basketball.
He said that the JKP Basketball team was coached by Late Khajuria for many years.
Mr Kalra also complimented the STC for organizing the tournament in his (Ravinder Khajuria’s) loving memory.
Ashok Jamwal and Dr Vikram Handa were the guests of honour on the occasion.
The inaugural match was played between STC Warriors (women) and Trikuta Club with STC Warriors emerging victorious.
In other match played today in women section, Tawi Club beat University Club 29-08.
The results among men were Kathua Valiants defeated Jammu District 76-58,
STC Warriors (men) beat Katra Club 73-23 and STC Terriers out[played Kat Club 61-24.
A total of 10 teams are taking part in the tournament which will culminate on November 28, 2019.
Rajesh Bandral, Vineet Pangotra, Harpreet Singh, Shubham Sharma, Kunal Gupta, Rohan Kundal, Ritik Khullar and Amanjyot Singh officiated the matches.
National Coach Aman Sharma (SAI) is supervising the conduct of the tournament. Prominent among those present on the occasion included Satish Gupta and Shaktish Chopra (Managers J&K State Sports Council), S. Amarjit Singh, former National Coach and Sushma Jamwal, Basketball Coach.
