SRINAGAR, Aug 27: The R&B Department in North Kashmir’s Baramulla has left a 2 kilometre-long patch of the road from Sheeri to Fatehgarh un-macadamized due to which the people living in around 40 adjoining villages are facing a difficult time in commuting.
As per details, the project work from Sheeri to Laridora was sanctioned under Central Road & Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) scheme in the year 2012 in the next 8 years, the widening of the road from the two identified spots along with other related works were carried out.
“In the middle, the project work was lying pending but then the macadamization of the road from starting from Laridora was started while as it should have been started from Fatehgarh,” the locals said.
The residents said that while the macadamization has been carried out, a patch of road measuring 2 kilometres from Sheeri to Fatehgard has been left out and with the condition of the road being pathetic, they are facing immense hardships.
“The road is full of potholes due to which the traffic plying on the road including the pedestrians, are facing immense hardships. We demand that the road must be macadamized and if there are any issues that the department is facing, the necessary patchwork should be carried out,” the residents demanded.
The Assistant Executive Engineer R&B Abdul Qayoom told Excelsior that there are some bottle-necks from Sheeri-Fatehgarh that need to be taken care of before macadamizing the road under focus.
“Once, we are done with the macadamization, the department will start the work of removing the bottlenecks and regarding the same, we are in touch with the concerned officials as well as the locals. I hope after a couple of weeks, the work on taking care of the bottlenecks will be started,” he said.
