2nd Edition of Chevrolet Cup Cricket Tournament concludes

JAMMU, Aug 19: Outplaying star-studded Simula Sports Club by 3 wickets in the summit clash, the cohesive and spirited unit of Rainawari Cricket Club (RCC) Srinagar won the title trophy of the 2nd Edition of Chevrolet Cup T20 Cricket Tournament which concluded at KC School ground, here today.
The Tournament, which was sponsored by KC Motors Jammu, witnessed the participation of 20 teams and organization of 40 matches, as it was played on league cum knockout basis.
Romesh Mahajan, former chairman Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association was the chief guest in the valedictory function, while Ankush Abrol, Member BCCI was the guest of honour, who later on distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up teams.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first Simula Sports Club was restricted to a modest total of 104 runs in 19.3 overs by the left-arm spinning duo of Aman Sharma and Dilbagh Singh who took 2 wickets each, while Kulvinder Singh claimed one wicket. Vivek Thappa was the top scorer with 29 runs, while Shashi contributed 27 runs to the total. The trio of experienced Dhruv Mahajan, Hardeep Singh and Sameer Khajuria failed to deliver and were sent back early in the innings.
In reply, RCC chased the total in an exciting contest in the last over of Dhruv Mahajan, when the team needed 12 runs in 6 balls, with 3 wickets in hand. Kulvinder was the star performer in the crunch situation, who hit a massive six and a boundary in that over to help his side register a thrilling victory and win the title. He remained unbeaten on 25 runs. Parveen Singh top scored with 34 runs, while Ahmer Ikhlaq and skipper Puneet Wattal contributed 21 and 14 runs to the total respectively. Youngster Aman Sharma and speedster Kulvinder Singh were declared joint winners of man of the match.
Winners RCC team was accompanied by Madan Mohan as coach and Mohd Farooq as manager, while president RCC Srinagar, Chaman Lal Suri and general secretary, Rajesh Dhar were also present on the occasion.
The winners were awarded with a cash prize of Rs 40,000 and a trophy and the runners-up team received a cash award of Rs 20,000 and a trophy from the chief guest on the occasion.
The match was officiated by Sadiq Hussain Malik and Rajinder Singh as umpires, while Farooq Ahmed was the scorer.
