*Huge gathering of young and old cricketers attends function

JAMMU, Feb 28: T20 Cricket Tournament ‘Salute and Tribute to Siachen Martyrs’, being organized by Parade Sports Association in association with Jammu Municipal Corporation, cricket lovers and a galaxy of sponsors, got underway at Parade Cricket Ground, here today.
The Tournament was formally inaugurated by Mehboob Iqbal, chairman Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association and PDP leader as chief guest, while senior Congress leader, Vikram Malhotra and Yudhvir Singh, vice president State BJP were the guests of honour. Deepak Handa, senior PDP leader and Mr Ayoub, senior NC leader were also present on the occasion. Vijay Sabharwal, president, Parade Sports Association was also present on the occasion.
Jammu’s cricketers of repute were honoured by the dignitaries for their achievements, in presence ofa huge gathering of young and old cricketers who attended the function.
Earlier, Dr Anil Kumar Mahajan, general secretary, Parade Sports Association presented welcome address and threw light on the functioning and achievements of Parade Sports Association since its inception in 1992.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest and the guests of honour assured the organizers all help for development of Parade ground and its maintenance. Mr Iqbal, in particular said that his priority would be to make Parade ground a wonderful cricketing facility if he remains chairman of JKCA.
The opening match was played between RCC Srinagar and Singh Cricket Club Akhnoor.
Winning the toss and bating first, RCC Srinagar scored a mammoth total of 205 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 6 wickets in the process. Jatin Wadhawan was the top scorer with 68 runs, studded with 5 fours and 4 sixes, while Ateev Saini contributed 55 runs with the help of 10 boundaries and one six. Satish Kumar also played a brilliant knock of unbeaten 39 runs including 3 fours and one six. For SCC Akhnoor, Sunny, Vinay, Binny, Anchal and Sham Singh Langeh claimed one wicket each.
In reply, SCC Akhnoor managed to score 167 runs in the allotted 20 overs by losing 7 wickets, thus lost the match by a margin of 38 runs. Sunny was the top scorer with 39 runs, while Sonu contributed 34 runs to the total. Anchal and Sourav chipped in with 15 and 14 runs respectively. For RCC, skipper Kuldeep Kumar was the pick of the bowlers, who scalped 3 important wickets, while Dilbagh Singh bagged 2. Satish Kumar and Akash Choudhary claimed one wicket each.
The match was officiated by JD Singh and Madan Verma as umpires, while the Tournament is being organized by Parade Sports Association, with 92.7 Big FM and Swabhiman Charitable Trust as its partners.
The proceedings of the inaugural ceremony were conducted by Rajesh Dhar.
