JAMMU, Dec 5: The Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj has disbursed Rs 70 crore in just 15 days to MGNREGA job card holders by using electronic Fund Management System (eFMS).
The Department achieved another milestone in the implementation of the Mahatama Gandhi National Rural Employment Guaranteee Scheme (MGNREGS) in the State by adopting e-FMS.
The initiative has been taken by the Rural Development department to bring transparency and accountability in the functioning of the department. Under eFMS the wages are directly credited to the account of the job card holders from the State Employment Guarantee Fund (SEGO Account without any loss of time. The system besides eliminating intermediary stages of fund flow at District /Block Level through concerned officers under the previous system, it provides for direct transfer of fund from State Account to Job card holder’s Account, reducing human intervention at bare minimum level, thereby considerably reducing delays in wage payment .
Under the system the department has verified the bank accounts of the MGNREGA workers and initiated Aadhaar based payments through eFMS. It has eliminated ghost workers and has thereby stopped frauds and corruption, besides enhancing efficiency in the wage payments.
Through e-FMS, the Department of RD & PR disbursed Rs 70 crore wages within a record time of just 15 days. In such a short span of time, 17000 Fund Transfer Orders (FTOs) have been generated and sent to bank.
The Department said that under e-FMS, remotest districts like Leh and Kargil have also been covered and wages worth Rs. 13 crore have been disbursed to MGNREGA workers, benefitting more than 20,000 MGNREGA workers there, since launch of new system.
The initatives have been taken under the guidance of Rural Development Minister Abdul Haq Khan and Commissioner/Secretary RDD Nirmal Sharma.
