RDD Minister, MLA, Soz, others call on Governor

SRINAGAR, July 5: Abdul Haq Khan, Minister for Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Law & Justice, called on Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here today.
Mr. Khan briefed the Governor about important matters relating to each of the areas of his responsibility and about the significant decisions taken in the recently concluded Legislative Assembly session. He also apprised the Governor about his department’s preparedness for the conduct of Panchayat elections in the coming 3 months.
The Governor spoke to Mr. Khan about the crucial importance of ensuring the timely implementation of all rural development schemes.
Mian Altaf Ahmad, former Minister and presently Member J&K Legislative Assembly from Kangan also called on Governor and discussed various matters relating to the speedy implementation of developmental works, to enable fuller utilization of available resources. He also discussed the progress of the ongoing Shri Amarnathji Yatra, 2016.
The Governor appreciated Mian Altaf’s concerns and urged him to continue sustained efforts for promoting the people’s welfare.
Meanwhile, Prof. Saif-ud-Din Soz, senior Congress leader and former Union Minister, met Governor  and discussed various aspects of the obtaining environment and the need for rapid socio-economic development in the State. He also brought to the Governor’s notice certain concerns about the functioning of public institutions.
Brig. (Retd.) Harcharan Singh, Director Sainik Welfare, Jammu briefed the Governor about the various initiatives taken by him for promoting the welfare of the ex-Servicemen, including the to-date status of setting up Grievance Redressal Cells at the State and  District levels for the benefit of ex-Servicemen and their families; adding new facilities  in all the Sainik Bhawans; digitization of ESM data; improving the financial status of the Board and various issues relating to the support being provided by the Kendriya Sainik Board to the J&K Rajya Sainik Board for implementing welfare schemes for ex-Servicemen.
Brig. Singh also informed the Governor about the help given by DGP for the establishment of a Single Window Clearance facility at Police Headquarters which receives complaints of ex-Servicemen and arranges speedy resolution of complaints.
The Governor urged Brig. Singh to continue sustained efforts for establishing a larger corpus of funds for promoting the welfare of the ex-Servicemen in the State.
Fayaz Ahmad Bhat, Chairman Jammu & Kashmir Peace Foundation (JKPF) also called on Governor.
Bhat apprised the Governor about JKPF’s Peace Movement and the programmes launched since 2010 for promoting peace, communal harmony and brotherhood in the State. He also shared his future plans for further strengthening this movement in the State and appealed Governor for grant of amnesty to the youth who were not serious offenders.
Bhat informed the Governor that JKPF will be organizing an International Peace Conference on the occasion of Independence Day where in all the peace promoting groups will be brought on a single platform.
