RDD to provide computer, DEO to each Panchayat

JAMMU, Apr 23: A review meeting under the chairmanship of Abdul Haq, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj of all the districts of Jammu division was held at the Civil Secretariat.
The meeting was attended by Secretray to Government, Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Director Rural Development Kashmir, Tasaduq Geelani,  Director Rural Development Jammu, G.N.Balwan, K.K.Sidha, Additional Secretary to Government, Department of RD and PR.
Besides reviewing the implementation of flagship program and schemes, the Minister emphasised and directed in strict terms to ensure transparency and accountability at each level and ensure participation of the rural households in the plan process and decision making.
The Minister further directed to ensure conduct of Gram Sabhas in each Panchayat and also for documentation of all the processes involved right from planning till execution and monitoring of the schemes/programmes particularly MGNREGA in the State.
The Minister announced that the department will engage 3096 Accountant cum Data Entry Operators exclusively for Panchayats in the 1st instance. The Minister also announced that department will provide one computer to each Panchayat of the State and also connect them with National Optical Fibre Network so that the PRIs remain connected with block, district, State and whole country.
This will augment the department towards transparency and efficiency and to improve delivery to the beneficiary at door steps. This will make  Panchayats as points of deliverance and Governence. The Minister also announced that the department will be constituting State awards for each level of functionaries of the department for exemplary performance.
