RAMBAN, Oct 21: The wrestlers of 15 Sector Rashtriya Rifles (RR) of Reasi Rhinos team swept the Pir Panjal Wrestling League “Yuva Yodha” title in all the seven categories on the final day of the week long Inter District Wrestling Championship, organised by Army under its Sadbhavana mission at Government Higher Secondary School, here today.
The winning team of 15 Sector RR was awarded with Rs 31,000 and a Rolling Trophy whileas the runner-up team of 11 Sector RR was awarded with Rs 21,000. Every winner and the runner-up in each weight category were awarded with Rs 15,000 and Rs 7,000 respectively.
The wrestling championship, started on October 15, witnessed the participation of over 100 wrestlers from six districts of the State under the weight categories of 57 kg, 61 kg, 65 kg, 70 kg, 74 kg, 86 kg and 97 kg as per the rules Wrestling Federation of India. As many as eight matches were held in each weight category. The teams, which participated in the championship, were Red Devil Ramban, Rajaurian Ranchos, Poonch Panthers, Kishtwar Warriors, Daring Dodians, Naushera Ninjas and Reasi Rhinos.
There were 7 wrestlers from Reasi District in the finals, five from Ramban and two from Kishtwar Warriors 9 Sector RR from Kishtwar.
Total prizes of over Rs 2 lakh were distributed among the various participants besides giving medals to the individual winners.
On the concluding day, a special bout of Indian Style Wrestling between Ajay Sharma of Udhampur and Mohammed Sadik of Jammu was also enjoyed by a huge crowd. The former was awarded Rs 15,000 and the latter was given Rs 10,000.
Olympian Medalist Padam Bhushan Yogeshwar Dutt alongwith his Guru Narinder was the cynosure and the prominent person present during the final match here and the prize distribution ceremony.
General Officer Commanding of Delta Force was the chief guest, while Commander 11 Sector, DIG DKR Range, Nisar Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Mohammed Aijaz, SSP Ramban, Randeep Kumar, Shiv Kumar Sharma, President State Wrestling Federation were also present on the occasion.
On the occasion an entertaining cultural programme was also present by the artists of Neeta and Adresh Group besides the students of local schools.
