Reasi Royals, Reasi Nightingales triumph in PPKPL finals

REASI, Dec 18: The week-long cricketing and kho-kho extravaganza, Pir Panjal Knight Premier League (PPKPL)-2014, organized by the Army came to an exciting finish with cricket team of Reasi Royals and kho-kho team of Reasi Nightingales lifting the winner’s trophy in the  Zorawar  Singh Memorial Stadium, here today.
The week-long Tournament witnessed an overwhelming response with large number of Army and Civil Dignitaries attendance.
The final match of cricket was played between Reasi Royals and Romeo Rockets, which was won by Reasi Royals by 5 wickets, while kho-kho final was played between Reasi Nightingales and Rajauri Eves which was won by Reasi Nightingales by 12 points.
Ankush Sharma of Reasi Royals was adjudged man of the series, while Saddam Hussain of Romeo Rockets was declared best bowler and Arjun Singh of Reasi Royals bagged best batsman award.
Sonia Shah of Reasi Nightingales was named best kho-kho player, while Chandrakala of the same team was named most promising kho-kho player of the Tournament.
The riveting final matches were interlude by a scintillating Band display by Army Bands.
The ‘Jan Jagran Manch’ from Kalakote presented a thought provoking skit on the theme “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan”.
Lt Gen KH Singh, GOC 16 Corps was the chief guest on the occasion. The chief guest gave away the trophies to the winners and runners-up teams of the Tournament as also the individual prizes.
He along with the other dignitaries interacted with the participating players, motivating them to pursue sports for good health and mental fitness.
“The objective of PPKPL apart from promoting sports was to involve youth in sporting activities to help them shun drugs and not to derail from the mainstream, besides enhancing good relationship between Army and civilians,” informed Lt Col Manish Mehta, PRO Defence MOD, Spokesperson.
