SRINAGAR, Oct 24: Chairman J&K Rural Development Society (JKRDS) and former Speaker J&K Legislative Assembly, Mubarak Gul has expressed concern over the losses suffered by orchards across the Kashmir division due to the unseasonal snowfall.
In a handout Gul urged the LG administration to provide immediate compensation to the affected orchardists.
He said that unseasonal snowfall has caused damages to orchards particularly to apple orchards in upper reaches of various districts in South, North and Central Kashmir especially in Shopian and Kulgam.
“The snowfall has resulted in huge loss to the fruit business across Kashmir division,” he maintained adding that the losses must be immediately assessed by the respective district administration.
Gul claimed that prevailing financial condition of fruit growers and farmers is already worse due to previous continuous lockdowns.
He said that the government must also ensure implementation of crop insurance scheme for the rehabilitation of affected orchardists.
The JKRDS Chairman urged the Lieutenant Governor to announce a financial package for the affected orchardists who have suffered losses in untimely snowfall.
