JAMMU, June 1: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a meeting of its senior leaders under the chairmanship of former Deputy Chief Minister- Kavinder Gupta to discuss the COVID-19 relief package announced by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to protect the weaker sections of society and MSME’s.
State vice president- Yudhvir Sethi, State secretary- Arvind Gupta, senior BJP leaders- Varinder Jeet Singh, Rash Pal Verma and Prem Gupta were present in the meeting to discuss the disbursement of relief, problems being faced by other sections of society and encouraging citizens for use of Swadeshi goods so as to boost the Indian economy.
Gupta said the announcement of package reflected the Narendra Modi Government’s sensitivity. The transfer of Rs 500 to 20 crore women Jan Dhan account holders of PAN India and free gas to 8.3 crore Ujjwala scheme beneficiaries for three months, deposit of first instalment of Rs 2,000 to farmers” account in the first week of April to extend relief to poor farmers during the COVID-19 pandemic is a big relief to the society which has benefited more than eight crore, he said. Additional payment of Rs 1,000 to the elderly, widows and disabled had benefited around three crore people, he added.
Gupta informed the members present in the meeting that under PM Garib Kalyan Yojana, migrant workers and the rural poor and women by way of supply five kg wheat and five kg rice per person in addition to one kg pulse for the three months to 80 crore poor had given a sigh of relief to the poor people. Gupta said Lt. Governor’s administration should expedite its machinery to reach out to weaker and other sections of society with the distribution of relief package announced by Government of India in effective way. UT Government should make a comprehensive package policy for the businessmen associated with transport industry involving bus, mini bus, auto and truck owners, tourism industry, service sector and unorganised micro & small enterprises.
Gupta stressed for the reaching out to public to aware them about the schemes launched by Union Government for every section of society to avail the benefits.
Gupta said as Gandhi Ji was convinced that deep poverty prevailing among masses was mainly due to the ruinous departure from the path of Swadeshi in the economic and industrial life, we should follow the spirit of Swadeshi and use only things that are produced by our immediate neighbours and serve those industries by making them efficient, and strengthen them in areas where they are found deficient.
