Restrictions imposed after death of youth in north Kashmir

 

SRINAGAR: Curfew like restrictions have been imposed in Kalaroos area, in the frontier district of Kupwara, after a youth, injured in a group clash between supporters of two rival political parties on May 16, died today.

Police have already arrested five people in this connection.

A number of senior ruling National Conference (NC) leaders visited Kalaroos to condole the demise of Mohammad Shafi Ganai, who was injured after he was allegedly attacked by workers of rival political party soon after the parliamentary election results were declared.

Thousands of people joined the funeral procession of Ganai and demanded immediate arrest of all the accused. Apprehending trouble, authorities imposed restrictions to maintain law and order in the area.

A senior police officer said that a FIR has already been registered in this connection.

He said five accused have been arrested and investigation was going on.

Minister for Higher Education, Mohammad Akbar Lone, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Mir Saifullah, Minister of State for Animal Husbandry & PHE, Nazir Ahmed Gurezi, former MLA Qaiser Jamsheed Lone and District Development Commissioner, Kupwara, Itrat Rafique, today visited the residence of deceased youth.

They expressed their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for peace to the departed soul. (AGENCIES)
