Apropos the news in this paper on 16th Aug, 2015) regarding the ‘returning of Sahitya Academi Awards’ is unfortunate. The writers/poets are the conscience keepers of a society and the Sahitya Akademi, which is a non-political, national institution confers the literary awards on the writers/poets for their best talent in the field of literature. They are judged for their exceptional philosophical thought in their creative writings.
If Mr Ved Rahi is correct as per news in DE (Oct 16, 2015) then the inference is more disappointing which points towards political interference in selection of an awardee, thereby corrupting the very independence of the writers thought/philosophy.
Scholars, writers, poets are expected to guide the nations towards emanicipation in, even difficult times. Let our scholars, writers, poets also change the poison of communal thinking into ambrosia of Secular thought. Let them guide the society from hatred to compassion and love for the fellow beings through their creative writings. Let them propagate the concept of “Sarbat da Balla’ (Goodwill to all).
