JAMMU, Dec 23: Ritvik Gupta defeated Asad Sharma by 3-0 in the final of the Men’s Singles, whereas Ragini Gupta emerged winner in Women’s final defeating Iknoor Kour by 3 games to 2.
The Men’s final was a one sided contest with both the players giving all they had but Ritvik closing on the final in style to take the match and championship by 3-0.
Earlier, in the Men’s semifinals Ritvik Gupta held his nerve high and ended the dream run of Mehboob Ilahi of Srinagar who played his heart out throughout the tournament causing some of the biggest upsets but couldn’t get through the challenge of Ritvik Gupta. In the other semifinal, Asad Sharma defeated one of the senior player of the UT of J&K Sandeep Khadotra by 3-1.
The chief guest on the occasion was Dr Zaffar Iqbal (CAO), who witnessed the final match and distributed the prizes amongst the winners. He assured the association of any help whatsoever for uplifting the game of Table Tennis in the UT and also motivated the emerging champions to give their best in the national level events also.
In Cadet Boys final, Adnan (Poonch) beat Gurasses (Poonch) 3-1, whereas in Cadet Girls final, Niharika (Jammu) beat Tuheen (Jammu) 3-1.
In Sub Junior Boys final, Madhav Sharma (Udhampur) beat Sourav Sharma (Udhampur) 3-2, whereas in Sub Junior Girls dinal, Iknoor Kour (Jammu) beat Ragini Gupta (Jammu) 3-1.
In Junior Boys final, Saksham Verma (Jammu) beat Hanumat Sharma (Jammu) 3-1, whereas in Junior Girls final, Iknoor Kour (Jammu) beat Vanshika (Poonch) 3-1.
In Youth Boys final, Ritvik Gupta (Jammu) beat Manandeep Singh (Jammu) 3-2, whereas in Men’s final, Ritvik Gupta (Jammu) beat Asad Sharma (Jammu) 3-0.
In Veteran Men’s final, Amit (Jammu) beat Anil Abrol (Jammu) 3-1.
Prominent among those who were present on the occasion were Satbir singh, Rajan Sharma, IP Singh, Satish Gupta, Ajay Sharma, Saleem Bandey (Secretary Poonch District TT Association), Vasu Dewan, Sandeep Khadotra, Narinder Singh, Sheetal Gandotra and Sanjeev Gupta (President J&K Billiards and Snooker Association), Vikas Gupta (Secretary J&K Judo Association), Gurvinder Singh Sasan, Riyaz Ahmed, Jahangeer and Riyaz.
The matches were officiated by Vasu Dewan, Sandeep Khadotra (NIS Table Tennis coach), Gurvinder Singh Sasan (NIS Table Tennis coach), Meenu Rajesh and Asad Sharma.
