JAMMU, May 14: Speaker State Legislature and MLA Gandhi Nagar Constituency, Kavinder Gupta toured the area from Satwari to Bhour Camp via Narwal Pai and Gadhi Garh and took on the spot assessment of the conditions of the roads.
He was accompanied by Executive Engineer PWD Abdullah, AEE PWD Rafiq Sheikh and other officers of PWD and R&B.
Speaker interacted with locals at various places and gave patient hearing to them. Locals apprised MLA of their sufferings due to poor conditions of roads.
“Due to pot holes at almost every place, traffic jams and accidents have just become a routine affair. Students, servicemen and business community have suffered a lot while plying from one place to another”, they added.
Gupta also visited the lanes of these areas which were in dilapidated condition. People told him that it becomes very difficult for them to even reach their homes during rainy season due to water logging in these lanes. Old aged people, small children become vulnerable to water borne diseases during the monsoon, they added.
Speaker directed the officials of PWD and R&B to take up the work of upgradation of lanes and drains of these areas and start the work at the earliest so that it gets completed before the monsoons.
MLA assured the locals that the work on the main roads is going to start with in few days and tenders have already been floated, adding that this time commission free work will be done so that quality roads can be made which in turn will reduce burden on State treasury and moreover the life of the roads will also increase.
He further said that roads are the lifeline of every nation and he will give his best in achieving the dream of our former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee of road connectivity to every village and providing world class roads to the people of the nation.
