SRINAGAR, June 11: Hailing from the village Takya Behram Shah of district Anantnag of Jammu and Kashmir, Rohil Rashid has made a big stride in the field of Softball.
He has been selected for the Asia Cup (Men) Softball Championship to be held at Kochi, Japan from June 25 to 28, wherein he is representing India. Rohil Rashid is the younger son of prominent Sports promoter Abdul Rashid Ahanger.
He started playing Softball at the age of 11 years and played Inter School, Inter District, Inter Division, District Level, State and National Level Championships. After 21 years of struggle, Rohil got selected for India team during the final selection trials called by Softball Association of India.
He had also attended India camps conducted by SBAI in Anantpur, Andhra Pradesh, Jalgoan, Maharashtra and Pondicherry.
Pertinently, Rohil became the 2nd Athlete from Jammu and Kashmir who is participating in International Softball Championship before that Harleen Kour from Jammu was part of Indian National Women team who participated in Women Asia Cup Softball Championship at South Korea.
Honorary General Secretary, J&K Softball Association, Waseem Raja Khan applauded Rohil Rashid for his hard work. He said that J&K Sports Council is providing every possible support for the development and promotion of Softball Sport in Jammu & Kashmir for making dreams of Softball Athletes true to achieve great height in the Sport of Softball which is an Olympic Sport and presently playing in 134 Countries around the world.
He also said that Secretary Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul has been playing an important role for the upliftment of Sports and Games in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
NIS topper 2006 of Softball, Harvinder Singh is accompanying the Indian Men team as Coach for Asia Cup (Men) Softball Championship at Japan. Indian National Softball team will leave from New Delhi for Japan on 23rd of June under the banner of Softball Association of India.
