JAMMU, Dec 8: To commemorate the completion of 78 glorious years of dedicated service in the field of education, Model Institute of Education and Research (MIER) today celebrated its foundation Day.
On this occasion, an impressive and colourful function was organized by the institute at its B. C. Road campus.
The Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture Raman Bhalla was the chief guest.
Other luminaries who graced the occasion were Dr. Arun K. Gupta, Chairman MIER, Dr. Renu Gupta, Director MIER, Dr. Adit Gupta and Dr. Ankur Gupta, joint Directors MIER, Gen. S. K. Sharma, Principal MIET, the members of the Board of Directors, high-ranking officials, social activists, prominent citizens and large number of parents of the students of various wings of the institute.
Addressing a large gathering, the Minister lauded the role of MIER in spreading quality education and for producing enlightened citizens who have talent to perform leadership role in all walks of life.
On his arrival, Mr. Bhalla was accorded a warm reception by the chairman, Director and other senior officers of the Institute. He was presented a guard of honour by the NCC cadets, scouts and guides of the institute.
Thereafter, Mr. Bhalla also paid rich homage to the founders of MIER late Prof. H. L. Gupta and Prof. Shanti Gupta by laying floral wreaths at their portrait.
Chairman MIER and noted educationists Dr. Arun K. Gupta formally welcomed the chief guest and described him as a son of the soil and an active social worker, who is a popular leader of Jammu and Kashmir State and has been endeavouring to raise and resolve the important social issues.
An impressive cultural programme was presented by the students of Humming Buds, both branches of Model Academy and MIER College of Education. The cultural programme commenced with an invocation to Goddess Saraswati in the form of shalokas followed by Ganesh Stuti, a tribute to Lord Ganesha which mesmerized the audience. The little angels of Humming Buds presented an attractive dance number based on seasons. The school students presented an English play ‘ The Show Must Go On” dance performances based on various international genres like Russian dance, Kalinka and Chinese fan dance along with a unique item ‘Chaturang’, a classical rendition by the school students learning music. Traditional Dogri and Punjabi dances by the B.Ed students depicting the culture of the region had the audience tapping their feet. The star attraction of the programme was a special performance by Master Anmol Jaswal, a student of Model Academy and mega-finalist of the internationally reputed television show, Indian Idol Junior which enthralled the audience through his melodious singing. Master Anmol, who brought laurels to the institute and made the state of Jammu and Kashmir proud through his singing proficiency, was awarded a gold medal in recognition to his achievement. Four students of Class X who won merit positions in the board examination were also honoured.
A vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Aditi Gupta, Joint Director MIER who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the chief guest on behalf of the students, staff and management of the institute for providing the much needed encouragement and assured that the institute will continue to serve the society with greater verve and enthusiasm.
