Rompy plots Jumbo collapse as Surya Risers win by 30 runs

JAMMU, July 22: Left-arm spinner Rompy Sharma spun web around Jumbo Gladiators batsmen and helped Surya Risers to defeat Jumbo Gladiators in the match of the ongoing Big FM-Jammu and Kashmir Corporate Premier League (JKCPL) at MA Stadium, here today.
The League, which earlier got underway at Srinagar on July 7, 2013, commenced here with a bang after three days delay because of inclement weather conditions.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, Surya Risers openers Vikas and Pranav Gupta began with style, hitting series of boundaries in the first 4 overs. Vikas made power-packed 29 runs off 20 balls with the help of 3 fours and 2 sixes, while Pranav contributed 27 off 20 balls, studded with 3 crispy boundaries and one maximum. The sixes, one inside-out over covers and another straight over the bowlers head, hit by Vikas were delight to watch. Both the batsmen played shots with fluid grace and utter brilliance. Skipper Ian Dev Singh and Guru Partap Singh chipped in with 13 runs each, while Rompy contributed 9 runs to the total.
For Jumbo Gladiators, Raman Dutta, Kuldeep Kumar, Hiten Dalal and Soumay Jain claimed one wicket apiece.
In reply, Jumbo Gladiators, bundled out for 105 runs in 18 overs, thus lost the match by 13 runs. Parveen Singh (19), skipper Ram Dayal (18) and Sahil Aggarwal (11) were the main contributors. No other batsman could cross double figure mark as Rompy Sharma wreaked-havoc, scalping 4 important wickets in his 4 overs by conceding 13 runs, while Inderjeet Singh took 2 wickets by giving away 18 runs in his 4 overs. Vikas, Abhishek and Sourab also claimed one wicket apiece. Rompy was presented HDFC man of the match by Satish Gupta, owner of Surya Risers, while Vikas was presented TCI maximum sixes award. The presentation team included Farooq Amin, CEO of JKCPL and owner of Kanwal Tigers, Abdul Qayoom, general secretary JKCPL and former J&K Ranji Trophy skipper and Satish Gupta.
The match was officiated by BCCI panel umpire Amit Bansal and Sudhir Singh as umpires, while Dheeraj and Mohsin acted as the scorers. Former International umpire SK Bansal was the match referee.
In tomorrow’s fixture, Simula Bulls will take on Jumbo Gladiators at 2:30 pm.
