JAMMU, Nov 16: The Trekking Expedition to Roopkund comprising of one Officer, one Junior Commissioned Officer and ten soldiers of Crossed Swords Division was flagged in today at Pallanwala by the local Army authorities.
The enthusiastic soldiers completed trekking along the difficult and adventurous route of 226 Kilometers over a period of eleven days, from November 2, 2015 to November 13, 2015 along route Nautha-Dewal-Lohjang-Van-Bedni Bugyal and finally to Roopkund which is located at an altitude of 16500 ft in Uttarakhand.
Roopkund, also locally known as ‘The Mystery Lake’ is a high altitude glaciated lake located near the base of the two Himalayan peaks of Trishul (7120m) and Nande Ghunti (6310m) in the Garhwal District.
The expedition which was flagged in by the Brigadier MKS Rawat inculcated the spirit of adventure and mental robustness of the troops as the route was through the snow clad mountains and at the same time provided a platform to interact and promulgate the message of peace and harmony among the people enroute.
