JAMMU, May 3: Round square rep of KC Public School Sonia Thakur attended two days’ workshop on Discovery Framework at Hong Kong.
Discovery Framework has been developed collaboratively by an international writing group of Heads, Teachers and Curriculum Directors from Round Square schools that captures and describes the spirit of a Round Square learner who develops and exhibits competencies and attitudes in relation to six Round Square ideals, namely internationalism, democracy, environmentalism, adventure, leadership and service.
The key speakers at the conference were Rod Fraser, Chairman of Round Square, Rachel Westgarth, Chief Executive Officer, Gerard F Foley, Principal of Ivanhoe Grammar School Melbourne, Australia, Craig Carlan, Principal, Stanford Lake School, South Africa and Richard Ovens, Principal of Woodleigh School, Australia.
They spoke at length on how the framework connects the spirit of the RS Ideals with 12 discoveries that students make on their learning journey, which are inquisitiveness, tenacity, courage, compassion, inventiveness, ability to solve problems, self-awareness, sense of responsibility, appreciation for diversity, commitment to sustainability and communication and team-working skills.
The innovative practises of Discovery Framework learnt at the workshop would help KC Public School build a strong community of teachers, parents and students to work together to embed character education into the curriculum, focusing on values.
In embracing the Framework, the School would adopt its own innovative and creative ways to blend character education with academic achievement and draw out learning by bringing the Framework into its classrooms.
