LEH, Jan 5: The Royal Enfield Ice Hockey League-Season 2 was officially kicked off at Nawang Dorjay Stobdan (NDS) Stadium in Leh today marking the start of an action-packed winter sports season.
The opening ceremony was attended by Vikram Singh Malik, Secretary Sports, UT Administration of Ladakh, who dropped the puck for the defending champions, Kang Sing to take on the Shakar Chiktan Royals in the first match of the season.
Royal Enfield also showcased its commitment to the sport by presenting state-of-the-art skate sharpening machines for community use ensuring players from remote regions have access to equipment that helps them maintain optimal performance.
The event also saw the unveiling of league’s new jerseys and trophies.
The trophy, designed by local artist Nawang Gyaltsan uniquely blends the themes of ice hockey and the snow leopard, symbolizing Ladakh’s cultural connection to the sport.
The teams also revealed that their new jerseys were made from recycled PET bottles, a result of the partnership with T10 Sports.
Bidisha Dey, Executive Director of Eicher Group Foundation, emphasized the importance of the league in strengthening ice hockey in Ladakh, with Royal Enfield’s support helping to develop the sport through equipment and training.
Vikram Singh Malik highlighted Royal Enfield’s ongoing dedication to nurture sports in Ladakh, noting league’s role in offering young players opportunities to compete on national and international stages.
The 2025 league will feature 30 matches over 10 days, including 23 men’s and 7 women’s games. The women’s tournament will culminate in a final on January 12, followed by the men’s championship final on January 13.
