JAMMU, Jan 25: Royal Strikers got the better of Pitch Smashers in a close contest of an exhibition cricket match, organized by Birla Open Minds International School (BOMIS) in collaboration with Royal Women Cricket Club (RWCC) at BOMIS, here today.
The match was organised with an objective to give fillip to women cricket and promote women empowerment.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, Pitch Smashers scored a paltry total of 54 runs in 19 overs. Meenu Slathia and Nadia Choudhary contributed 12 and 11 runs respectively. For Royal Strikers, Sandhya Sayal, Aditi and Ananya took 2 wickets each.
In reply, Royal Strikers chased the target in a close contest in 19.1 overs. Rifat top scored with 11 runs, while Sarla contributed 6 runs to the total. For Pitch Smashers, Pushpa was the pick of the bowlers, who captured 3 important wickets by conceding 18 runs in her 4 overs, while while Nadia and Anvi took 2 wickets each. Pushpa was adjudged as woman of the match for her superb bowling display.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman of BOMIS said that the time was ripe to involve more and more women in sports and allied activities, while Principal of the School, Dr Sanchita Mukherjee said that there was dire need to let women get rid of their jobs and participate in sports activities for their well being.
Dr Roopali Slathia thanked the administration and management of BOMIS for promoting women cricket.
Veena Sharma, Anita Gupta, Surekha Singh and Jyoti Bala were present on the occasion, while the match was officiated by Satika Pangotra, Ankita Jalla and Ashima Pathania.
