JAMMU, Feb 22: The senior members of PHE Employees United Front (PHEEUF) today alleged that Rs 11 hike in the wages of daily rated and casual workers by the LG’s administration is cruel joke with the poor workers of the UT of Jammu and Kashmir and they will launch 72 hour `Kam Chhorh Hartal’ from March 16 against it besides their other demands.
Talking to media persons at dharna site outside the office of Chief Engineer Jal Shakti ( PHE) Department here today, senior members PHE United Front Ravi Hans, Rajinder Singh Taj, Hoshiar Singh, Mohan Lal and Mandeep Singh said that increasing wages of just Rs 11 by the UT Government is a cruel joke with the daily wagers and casual labourers working in various Government departments and Local Bodies. They said the Government has increased wages after a long time and during these days of high inflation, when the prices of fuel and other essential commodities have gone sky high, increasing wages of the poor workers by just Rs 11 per day is like rubbing salt on their wounds.
This is cruel joke with the poor workers which has never happened in the history. They said that Government should withdraw this order as this is most insulting, unjust and unfair on the part of people at the helm of affairs. They condemned the move of LG Government.
Meanwhile, PHE workers and daily wagers’ continued protest dharna at B C Road Complex of the Jal Shakti Department on 246th consecutive day today.
They are demanding release of their pending wages of about 70 months, salary of December month and regularisation of their services. These workers are on strike since June 22, 2022 and demanding release of their pending wages and regularization of their services. Despite several rounds of talks with higher authorities in the Department, their issues could not be resolved despite Lt Governor’s assurance.
