RS witnesses uproar over Telangana, Muzaffarnagar deaths

NEW DELHI : Proceedings in the Rajya Sabha were  disrupted for the fifth consecutive day today by the Oppostion  on issues of a separate state of Telangana, 60 deaths in relief  camps for Muzaffarnagar riot victims and Union Home Minister  Sushil Kumar Shinde’s letter to Bihar Government on Naxalism.

The House was adjourned twice — first till 1200 hrs and  then till 1400 hrs.
As soon as the House re-assembled at 1200 hrs, members of  the BSP, SP, TDP and JD(U) were up on their feet raising their respective issues.
While the BSP members, led by Satish Chandra Misra, raised  the issue of death of around 60 people, including children, due  to cold in relief camps set up for victims of Muzaffarnagar  riots, members from Andhra Pradesh, belonging both to TDP and  the Congress displayed placards reading ‘save Andhra’.
JD(U) members were agitated over the Home Minister’s letter  to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar asking him to take steps  to curb Maoist violence which he said was again on the rise in  the state.
BSP members also entered the Well of the House demanding dismissal of the Uttar Pradesh Government.
Trinamool Congress members demanded action against Justice  (retd) Asok Kumar Ganguly, who has been facing charges of “unwelcome behaviour” towards a law intern.
They were carrying posters with “Delhi police arrest  Ganguly” written on it.
Amid uproar, Deputy Chairman P J Kurien called for laying  of papers.
When the members continued their protests, Prof Kurien  adjourned the House till 1400 hrs.
