RTO imposes Rs 13.24 lakh fine, seizes 7 vehicles

Jammu, Dec 21: In an endeavor to check menace of traffic violation, team of Motor Vehicles Department, Kathua under Dr. Raj K. Thapa, Regional Transport Officer, seized seven vehicles and imposed spot fine/ challan on 138 other vehicles.
Fine of Rs. 13.24 lakh was imposed under various sections of Motor Vehicles Act.
The checking squads comprised ARTO, MVIs Vikas Srivats, Kamal Kumar and Ravinder Sharma, MVTA & officials Rasal Singh, Shamsher Singh, Sh. Pawan Kumar, Rakesh Kumar, Lekhraj Singh, Vijay Kumar and Feroz Shah.
In addition to challaning/ compounding, the drivers were sensitized towards importance of safe driving, including seat belt, helmet, fitness of vehicles, hazards of using mobile phone, importance of maintaining of speed limits and various other traffic laws.
Later in the evening, the team also laid night naka on highway to check night service vehicles violating traffic norms.
Pertinent to maintain that the RTO office Kathua has imposed a total fine of Rs. 100,00,537/- crore on traffic violators in the current financial year till date; which is highest among the non- capital districts.
The RTO stated that such surprise checking drives go a long way in maintaining traffic discipline in the area.
