Rubia, Menaz help J&K crush CBSE by 97 runs

JAMMU, Dec 12: Sailing on power-packed contributions with the bat and disciplined show with the ball by gritty Rubia and gutsy Menaz, Jammu and Kashmir thrashed CBSE by a huge margin of 97 runs to enter the quarterfinals of the ongoing 58th National School Games Under-19 Boys and Girls Tennis Ball Cricket Tournament, being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, under the aegis of School Games Federation of India at various venues, here.
Earlier, the eves from Jammu and Kashmir after winning the toss and batting first scored a mammoth total of 120 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in the stipulated 8 overs, losing 4 wickets in the process. Strong Rubia and stylish Menaz sent the rival bowlers on a leather-hunt to help Jammu and Kashmir set a mammoth target for CBSE. Rubia scored quick-fire unbeaten 46 runs, studded with 8 boundaries, while Menaz contributed 36 runs with the help of 8 delectable boundaries. For CBSE, Parul Akanksha, Divya and Shrishti claimed 1 wicket each.
In reply, the duo of Menaz and Rubia created havoc in the rival camp by bowling with great discipline and skill to plot their collapse and the whole team managed to score a meagre total of 23 runs in the allotted overs by losing 6 wickets, thus lost the match by a huge margin of 97 runs. None of the CBSE batswomen could cross the double figure mark. Rubia and Menaz took 3 wickets each, while Rohi claimed one.
In other matches of girls section played today, MP trounced Punjab, Gujarat got better of Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh drubbed Jharkhand.
Meanwhile, in boys section, at University grounds, Goa defeated CBSE by 43 runs and UP by 3 wickets in their matches played today.
In the first match, Goa drubbed UP by 43 runs in an easy contest. Batting first, Goa scored 99 runs in the stipulated 12 overs, losing 6 wickets in the process. Aniket, Rahul and Gridhar contributed 21, 20 and 12 runs to the total respectively. Aman bagged 2 wickets for CBSE, while Shekhar claimed one. CBSE, in reply, bundled out for 56 runs and lost the match by 43 runs. Samrat and Harshit scored 14 and 10 runs to the total respectively. For Goa, Aunish captured 3 wickets, while Aniket scalped two.
In another match at University grounds, Goa defeated UP by 3 wickets in a thriller in which the match was decided on the last ball. UP batting first scored 80/5 in 12 overs with Abhishek Yadav contributing maximum 24 runs. Aniket took 2 wickets for Goa. Goa chased the target on the last ball of the match with Gridhar and Nehal contributing 20 and 13 runs to the total respectively. Parveen was wrecker-in-chief from UP, claiming 4 important wickets, but those were not enough to stop Goa from victory.
At Parade ground, Tamil Nadu prevailed upon Gujarat by a narrow margin of 2 runs. Tamil Nadu made 77 runs, while Gujarat managed 75 runs and fell short of 2 runs. For TN, Pushe and Pankaj contributed 21 runs each, while Ranjeet and Billu Babu contributed 31 and 13 runs for Gujarat. Pankaj was pick of the bowlers for Tamil Nadu who scalped 4 wickets.
In another match at Parade ground, MP defeated Lakshdeep by 7 wickets. Lakshdeep scored 58 runs, while MP surpassed the target in 11 overs. Nitish scored 32 runs for MP, while Junaid contributed 18 runs for MP.
At MA Stadium, Chhattisgarh drubbed Andhra by 57 runs. Chhattisgarh scored 97 runs, while Andhra was bundled out for 40 runs in 9.3 overs. Amir, Ravi and Ankit scored 32, 30 and 12 runs for Chattisgarh, while Parveen and Yasir contributed 18 and 9 runs for Andhra. Akshay and Vinod took 2 wickets each for Chhattisgarh, while Yasir and Satish claimed one wicket each for Andhra Pradesh.
In another match at MA Stadium, Punjab defeated Lakshdeep by 5 wickets in an easy contest. Lakshdeep scored 63 runs, while Punjab chased the target easily by losing 3 wickets, thus won the match by 5 wickets. Amrit Pal was top scorer for Punjab with 29 runs.
Today’s matches were officiated by the panel of experts including Saleem-ur-Rehman, Mushtaq Ahmed Bhat, Raj Kumar, Sajad Ahmed Mir, Suresh Singh, Sadiq Hussain, Pankaj Sasun, Gurvinder Singh, Nazir Ahmed, Chander, Madan Mohan and Satpal Singh.
Meanwhile, Director Youth Services and Sports, Jaipal Singh alongwith Deputy Director Ashok Kumar and other officers visited the venues to take stock of the arrangements.
