JAMMU, Dec 11: State Accountability Commission (SAC) comprising Chairperson Justice Y P Nargotra and Justice Hakim Imtiyaz Hussain today directed the Director Estates to furnish details as to how many ex-Ministers and Legislators have been occupying Government accommodation and whether rules permit the same.
The directions were issued in a complaint mentioning that a former Minister and ex-MLA is continuing to occupy two houses, one at Jammu and another at Srinagar the rent of which is also outstanding despite the fact that he has ceased to be a Minister in the Government.
The Accountability Commission had sought the comments of the Director Estates on the complaint but he has not specifically dealt with the question vis-à-vis entitlement of the respondent to hold and occupy the Government accommodation after having ceased to be the Minister.
“The Director Estates is now directed to furnish information as to whether there are any rules, guidelines dealing with the question of entitlement of a person to any Government accommodation, whether a person, who has creased to be a Minister or a Legislator is entitled to continue to remain in occupation of the accommodation provided to him while he was a Minister or a legislature, how many persons, who are not entitled to hold/occupy Government accommodation are in occupation of the Government quarters/houses”, the order said.
The Commission has also sought to know how many private buildings and at what annual rentals have been hired by the Government for accommodating public functionaries, whether rentals of any such buildings have been revised and whether Abdul Aziz Zargar, Yogesh Sawhney, Gharu Ram, Dr Romesh Sharma, Haji Nissar Ali, Mula Ram, Peer Mohammad Hussain, Ghulam Rasool Kar, Abdul Rashid Dar, Qaiser Jamshed, Abdul Rehman Tukroo and others are occupuing any Government house at Jammu or Srinagar and whether they are entitled to the same.
The SAC has also sought to know the amount of rent outstanding on account of such occupant.
The Director Estates has to furnish all these details to the Commission before December 20, 2012 when the complaint has been listed for hearing.
