JAMMU, Mar 3: Former Minister and senior leader National Conference (NC), Ajay K. Sadhotra called on Governor, N. N. Vohra at Raj Bhawan and brought to his notice the problems being faced by the International Border (IB), Line of Control (LoC) dwellers.
The NC leader sought his intervention to instill confidence among these people and put check on fast rising alienation. As BJP Government at the Centre and BJP-PDP Government in the State has utterly failed to fulfill the promises made with IB-LoC dwellers so they are feeling a sense of deprivation and deceit, he added.
The NC leader submitted a memorandum to Governor demanding that IB and LoC people be given five marlas plots at safer places for construction of houses, ex-gratia be increased from Rs five lakh to Rs 20 lakh to the next kin of the victims of the shelling from Pakistan and the compensation for live stock of milchy animals be given the full cost of animal instead of Rs 3000 at present as the rate of live stock have gone very high as it is also one of the source of income for the people living on LoC and IB.
The memorandum further demanded that the houses damaged due to shelling on IB-LoC be repaired and reconstructed by the Government instead of giving meager compensation, special recruitment drive be launched for the youth of IB and LoC, besides permanent ambulances be placed at the strategic places for the people of IB -LoC for use in case of any eventuality, mobile animal husbandry teams be also made available to treat injured livestock, the compensation of crops be given in full and also free ration be given to the people as farmers could not sow or harvest their crops due to shelling.
