Sahil Janjua of J&K wins gold in Speedball U-19 boys singles

SAMBA, Feb 7: Sahil Janjua of Jammu and Kashmir clinched gold in Under-19 boys singles event of the 60th National School Games in the discipline of Speedball for boys and girls Under-19 organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, under the aegis of SGFI, which concluded at M V International School, Opposite 17 Miles, here today.
The silver medal in this category was bagged by Aryan Thakur of CBSE, while the bronze medal went to P Chandera Kumar of Telangana.
In Under-19 girls singles, Prachi Bansal of CBSE won gold, while Rhea Tikku of J&K clinched silver and Neeta of Delhi claimed bronze.
Director General Youth Services and Sports J&K, Navin Agarwal was the chief guest on the occasion, while Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Shantmanu and District Development Commissioner, Samba, Sheetal Nanda were the guests of honour.
Director General Youth Services & Sports J&K while highlighting the importance of games and sports said that these are very important for the students as they not only prove good exercises but also help to build fine physique for the boys and girls. The sports keep them mentally and physically strong besides students learn to cope with difficult situations.
A massive gathering witnessed the closing ceremony and the Flag retreat ceremony which was also held on the occasion.   Ashok Kumar, Senior Vice President, SGFI lauded the efforts of the Youth Services and Sports Department for organizing this mega event for the first time in the State.
Satya Narayan Choudhary, Observer SGFI, Vishal Singh, Chairman Technical Committee, Mirza Hazi, Deputy Director Central were also present on the occasion.
Earlier, Subash Chander Bhardwaj District Youth Services & Sports Officer Samba welcomed the audience. A colourful cultural programme was also presented by Humanity Public School Bari Brahamana and M.V. International School.
Later, a prize distribution function was held during which the chief guest gave away the prizes to winners and runners up and mementoes were presented to Satya Naryan Choudhary and Ashok Kumar.
In Mixed Double U-19 Ankit Sharma and Manika Sharma of J&K won gold and Sakshar Sharma and Nitika Singh      of CBSE got silver and Ashwin Sebastian and Joshena of Kerlaclinched bronze medal.
In Super Solo Boys U-19 Rustum of Delhi, Anand Kushwaha of U.P and B. Anil Yadav of Telangana bagged gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
In Super Solo Girls U-19 Sunny Irene of Kerla, Gaytri Devi of Delhi, and Nehasul of Maharashtra won gold, silver and bronze medals respectively while in double Boys U-19 Deepak & Afzal Shah of Delhi, Arvind & Vipan of Kerla and Piyush & Rahul of Chhatisgarh  clinched gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
Similarly, in Girls Double U-19 gold, silver and bronze medals were respectively won byLibana & Liya Sam of Kerla,  Aastha & Anjali of Delhi and Sonali & Vedangai of Maharashtra
Meanwhile, at Kathua, the 60th National School Games in Roll Ball Under-19 boys and girls category culminated at DPS Rajbagh today.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Shantmanu who was the chief guest while speaking on the occasion said that the idea behind organizing the National School Games in districts other than Jammu or Srinagar is to give glimpse of the National Games to the youngsters of other districts also. He said such events not only give exposure but also an opportunity to budding sports talent of these areas. He hailed the players for showing good sportsmanship during the event.
A colourful cultural programme presented by the students of DPS Rajbagh enthralled the audience and players on the occasion.
Later, medals and prizes were given to the winners.
In Boys Under-19 category J&K bagged gold, CBSE clinched silver and Rajasthan bagged bronze medals whereas in Girls Under-19 category  of Chhattisgarh bagged gold, Rajasthan silver and J&K won bronze medals.
Additional District Development Commissioner, Kathua, Narinder Singh Bali, SSP Kathua Neeva Jain, MLA elect Basohli Ch. Lal Singh,  Vice President SGFI, Ashok Kumar, Members SGFI, Dy. Director Central, Haji Mirza Hussain, Dy. Director Jammu, Dr. Rishee Kumar, DYSSO Kathua Sunil Kumar,  Principal, DPS & other distinguished guests were also present on the ocassion.
