KARGIL, Nov 25: SAI SAG Kargil lifted the overall trophy of 10th District Kargil Taekwondo Championship with 20 medals.
More than 100 players from all over Kargil participated in the tournament which was organized by Kargil Taekwondo Association under the aegis of J&K Taekwondo Association. Sawab Public School Baroo emerged as the runners up.
On the occasion, Feroz Ahmad Khan Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor LAHDC Kargil was the chief guest, while Nassir Hussain Munshi Executive Councillor for Works and Information LAHDC Kargil was the guest of honour and Professor Nassir Hussain Shabani was the special guest. Assistant Director Information Kargil, Muhammad Ali Tak, President Kargil Taekwondo Association Gulzar Hussain Munshi and Social and Cultural Activist Ajaz Hussain Munshi were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman, LAHDC expressed optimism that the local players who have immense talent and aptitude for martial arts particularly Taekwondo, despite having limited resources, have the potential to bring laurels to the district at State, National and International levels.
While reiterating the commitment of the Hill Council Kargil towards the encouragement of youngsters in different fields, CEC assured Kargil Taekwondo Association that all logistic support will be provided to ensure that the aspiring Taekwondo players are groomed in the best possible manner.
Feroz Ahmed Khan instructed the concerned officers to focus on those sports and games which are in line with the aptitude and talent of the local youth, he said adding that Taekwondo, is one among such games wherein players from the district have shown their calibre at national and international arena.
Nassir Hussain Munshi while addressing the players said that it is a matter of pride for Kargil for having 50 Black Belts in Taekwondo and hundreds of players having medals in National events. He said that the Council will do its best to ensure that the talent of young players do not go waste at any cost, and for this appropriate platform and encouragement would be given to them as and when need arises.
Later, the chief guest and other dignitaries distributed medals, trophies, and mementoes amongst the participating players and teams.
Meanwhile, for the first time Senior NCC Instructor and Sports Promoter Gulzar Ahmed Mir was given Life Time Achievement award by Kargil Taekwondo Association which was conferred by the Chief Executive Councillor Kargil.
