JAMMU, Dec 4: Sainik Colony Football Club emerged winner and lifted the title trophy of the ongoing Senior Division League Football Tournament, being organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKFA), at Government Gandhi Memorial (GGM) Science College football ground, here today.
During the match, players of Sainik Colony Football Club and Young Rovers tried their level best to raise the scorecard but failed and the first half ended with ‘no goal’.
In the second half, various attempts were made by the players of both the teams to net the goal, but with the outstanding performances by the goalkeepers, players of Sainik Colony Football Club and Young Rovers did not succeed and the match ended in draw.
Meanwhile, Sainik Colony Football Club was declared winner on point basis as the team has pocked 7 points in the championship, whereas Young Rovers had claimed only 5 points.
On the valedictory function, Kiran Wattal, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) was the chief guest, who awarded the winner and runner-up teams in presence of Zameer Thakur, president, JKFA, RK Kohli, treasurer, SS Bunty, vice president, Kuldeep Singh, district president, DFA, Mohan Lal, district secretary, SM Gill, Ramesh Chander, Yousuf Don, etc.
While speaking, Kiran Wattal highlighted the importance of sports in day to day life. He said that sports plays a pivotal role in the overall development of the body vis-à-vis mentally and physically.
He asked the youth to participate in the sports activities to keep their body fit.
