*Sports Minister announces cash incentive for all medal winners

JAMMU, Oct 21: School Olympics organized jointly by District Administration, Jammu and Department of Youth Services and Sports came to an end at BSF Campus, Paloura.
Minister of Sports, Imran Raza Ansari was the chief guest on the occasion, whereas, MOS, Education, Priya Sethi was the guest of honour.
Day 9 of School Olympics was marked by Junior Half Marathon which was conducted early in the morning from MA Stadium to Jammu University, involving a route of 7.5 lm for the boys and 6.5 km for the girls.
A total of 214 students participated in the Half Marathon. Ajay Kumar of SRML, Parade, won the Gold medal, whereas, Sarbjeet Singh of APS, Kaluchak won the Silver medal and Tsetan Narboo of Sainik School, Nagrota bagged Bronze medal.
In the Girls’ Category, Nazia Bibi of GGHSS, Bazar Qasaban won the Gold medal, whereas, Sakshi Chauhan of BSF, Paloura bagged Silver medal and Vishali Verma of GHSS, Rabta clinched Bronze medal.
Sainik School, Nagrota with a tally of 8 Gold, 4 Silver and 7 Bronze was crowned as the overall Champion in the boys’ category, whereas Presentation Convent School, with a medal tally of 4 Gold, 3 Silver and 4 Bronze was crowned as the overall Champion in the girls’ category. GHSS, Rabta bagged the honour of winning the Silver Trophy for Fair Play, best sportsmanship and Commitment to Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Further, GHSS, Rabta with a medal tally of 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 4 Bronze won the laurel for winning the highest number of medals among Government Schools in the medal tally.
The athletic events which were conducted on the final day included 800 meter for boys, 100 meter for boys, 100 meters for girls, 4×100 meters Relay for girls, 4×400 meters Relay for boys and 400 meters for girls.
In the overall Medal tally, Sainik School, Nagrota stood at number one, followed by BSF, Paloura and Presentation Convent School, Jammu.
Sports Minister while addressing the gathering announced cash incentive for all the medal winners of the School Olympics.
Deputy Commissioner, Jammu was requested by the Minister to furnish the details of all the medal winners’ alongwith their account numbers so that the cash incentives could be transferred to their bank accounts.
Minister of State for Education, Priya Sethi, lauded the efforts of District Administration for this unique initiative.
Deputy Commissioner Simrandeep Singh in his address thanked all the sponsors including the State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, National Highway Authority of India, Nehru Yuva Kendra and others including Jammu University, J&K Police, J&K Traffic Police, Jammu Municipal Corporation, CRPF, BSF and the employees of Sports Council and Youth Services and Sports.
On the occasion, the Minister awarded the mementos to the officials of different departments for their support in conducting the 9-day long School Olympics.
