Samooh Theatre stages ‘Bawa Jittmal’

JAMMU, Oct 22: Samooh Theatre staged its successful play ‘Bawa Jittmal’ directed by young Director, Ravinder Sharma at Bawa Kailakhnath Mandir, here.
A large number of audiences witnessed the play and applauded the performance of young actors who kept them on their feet. The show was organized by Bawa Kailakhnath Parbandhak Committee, Bantalab.
The story of the play was based on life of great Duggar hero “Bawa Jittmal”, popularly known as Bawa Jitto. Jittmal (1426-74) a brahmin and devotee of Mata Vaishno Devi and Raja Mandalik used to live in Aghar village near Katra, Vaishno Devi. He grew fed up with the attitude of his aunt Jojan and decided to leave the village. He met Mehta Bir Singh, the landlord of the Ambgrato in Jammu urged him to provide him a piece of land for tilling but Bir Singh gave him a piece of barren land after signing an agreement, which was written and signed by King Ajaib Dev. Jitmal was asked to gave 1/4th of his produce to the King. He worked hard day & night and transform the barren land into lush green fields. His dream was realized when he had a luxuriant yield. And so on…
The highlight of the play was its script in open verse form written by Dr. Gian Singh, dogri folk music (karak) by Surinder Manhas, costumes by Dr. Sudhir Mahajan, choreographed by Rohit Bains and persuasive direction by Ravinder Sharma.
Sandeep Manhas in the role of Bawa Jittmal gave a commendable performance, Sandeep Thakur and Chetan Charak in role of Malli and Gaggi were very impressive in comic timing, Rohan Sharma also gave good performance and Ravinder Sharma in role of Mehta Veer Singh proved his mettle as an actor too. The other artists of the play were Aashima Dutta,  Pallavi Jamwal, Abhishake Sharma, Shubam Singh, Samdhish, Tarun Charak, Pallavi, Mukul Bains, Akshit Sethi, Yeshvinder Bali, Yogeshwar Jamwal, Hempreet and Nitika Abrol.
Anita Chanpuri, Avinash Lakhnotra, Ajay Tamangh and Neeraj Sethi helped in backstage.
