JAMMU, Feb 23: Off-spinner Sandhya Sayal’s 5-wicket haul went in vain as Team Uttarakhand got the better of Jammu and Kashmir by 3 wickets in the ongoing Senior Women T20 League at Police Training Academy ground, Agartala today.
Chasing a target of 101 runs, Uttarakhand were going great guns with 70/1 in 11 overs, when Sandhya got rid of Megha Saini on the very first ball of the 12th over. Then she got another wicket of Mamta Kothiyal in the same over to make it 72/3 in 11.4 overs. In the meantime, Nadia Chowdhary dismissed well settled AN Tomar to get her team back on track. Both Sandhya and Nadia were simply lethal, hitting good areas and spinning web around the rival batswomen to make it 74/6 in 13.5 overs at one point of time. Sandhya took 5 important wickets by conceding 15 runs in her four overs, while Nadia claimed one wicket in her economical spell of 4 overs, conceding just 7 runs by bowling 2 consecutive maiden overs. However, an overthrow costing 7 runs at this stage turned the fortune in favour of Uttarakhand, who finally chased the required target in 18.3 overs by losing 7 wickets to win the match by 3 wickets. From Uttarakhand, AN Tomar top scored with 35 runs, while Tara contributed valuable unbeaten 20 runs to the total. Megha Saini and Madhwal chipped in with 16 and 15 runs respectively.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, Jammu and Kashmir scored a fighting total of 100 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Rubia Syed top scored with unbeaten 27 runs off 31 balls, studded with 2 fours, while Meenu Singh Slathia and Neeru Manhas contributed 18 and 17 runs to the total respectively. Jaspreet Kour, Sapna Jamwal and skipper Sarla Devi contributed 7 runs each. From Uttarakhand, R Rai and Madhwal claimed one wicket each, while three batswomen were dismissed via run-outs.
With this win Team Uttarakhand earned 4 points, while J&K failed to secure any point.
