Sanskrit Sansthan holds Annual Sports Day

JAMMU, Mar 11: Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan (Deemed University under the auspices of Union HRD Ministry), Shri Ranbir Campus, Jammu held its Annual Sports Day today at its Kot Bhalwal Campus, here.
Current Wushu National Champion and son of the soil, Surya Bhanu Pratap Singh was the chief guest on the occasion, while the function was presided over by the Principal, Prof Ramanuja Devanathan.
Surya Bhanu Pratap Singh highlighted the significance of sports and athletics in the overall development of students, and said that participation in sports promotes national pride. He said to keep National Flag high at the International scene is always a proudest moment for a sportsperson.
It is pertinent to mention here that Surya Bhanu has won a bronze medal in World Wushu Championship held in Jakarta, Indonesia, a silver medal in Asian Championship, a bronze medal in Paras Cup held in Iran, a gold medal in the SAF Games recently concluded at Guwahati and is the current National Wushu Champion.
In his presidential address, Prof Ramanuja Devanathan pointed out that healthy mind in a health body was an ideal enshrined in Indian educational system since times immemorial.
On this occasion, prizes were given to the students who had excelled themselves in various sports and athletic events held in the recently concluded competitions.
In the girls’ category, Anjana Das Deviprabha Biswal and Mahima Parida stood first, second and third respectively in 100 meter race. In 200 meter race, Jyoti Rekha Nayak, Devi Prabha Biswal and Anjana Das bagged first, second and third prizes. In 400 meter race, Jyoti Rekha Nayak, Anjana Das and Mamina Parida were declared first second and third, respectively. Sandhya Rani Bal, Mamina Parida and Devi Prabha Biswal stood first, second and third respectively, in Long Jump. In High Jump, Jyoti Rekha Nayak, Devi Prabha Biswal and Mamina Parida were declared first, second and third respectively. Mamina Parida, Arpita Mishra and Sandhya Rani Bal bagged the first, second and third prizes, respectively, in Shot Put. Mamina Parida, Rasmita Roy and Arpita Mishra were first, second and third respectively, in Discus Throw. In Badminton, Arpita Mishra stood first whereas Amisha Singh was declared second. In Chess, Deviprabha Biswal, Sumitra Bahera and Sweta Dash stood first, second and third respectively.
In boys’ category, in 100 meter race, Amit Sharma, Deepak Kumar Sahu were first and second while the third position was shared by Rohit Sharma and Ankaj Sharma. In 200 meter race Sidh Mahadev, Amit Sharma and Deepak Kumar Sahu were declared first, second and third respectively. In 400 meter race, Rohit Sharma, Amit Sharma and Ankaj Sharma stood first, second and third respectively. Rohit Khajura, Rohit Sharma and Rahul Sharma were first, second and third respectively, in 800 meter and 1500 races. In Long Jump, the first and second places were secured by Deepak Kumar Sahu and Amit Sharma and Sidh Mahadev and Vikal Bharti shared the third place. In High Jump, Amit Sharma and Vikal Bharti stood first and second while Deepak Kumar Sahu and Sidh Mahadev were declared third. In Shot  Put, Rohit Sharma, Anil Mishra and Bhuvan Sharma were declared first, second and third respectively. In Discus Throw, Sunil Khajuria, Anil Mishra and Ramachandra Pati stood first, second and third respectively. In Javelin Throw, Deepak and Anil Mishra bagged first and second prizes. In Chess, Gopal Sharma, Ramnik Sharma and Abhishek Sharma were first, second and third respectively. In Badminton, Sanjay Sharma and Vittesh Sharma stood first and  second. In Vollyball, the team comprising of Vittesh Sharma, Harish, Vivek, Surinder, Ankaj, Rohit Sharma, and Vikramjeet were declared winner.  The team comprising of Sidh Mahadev, Raman Sharma, Amit, Sunil, Vikal Bharti, Anil Sharma and Munish was runners-up. Dr PK Mahapatra, Dr Yogendra  Dixit, Dr. Chanchal Garg, Dr. Madan Singh, Dr. Raj Kumar and Dr Rajinder Lal were the members of the Sports Committee which adjudged the events.
Prizes were also given to the students who had excelled in the Inter-campus competitions. They included Purushottam Das who got Best Actor Award and  also third prize in Oral Recitation of Subhashit, and Rohit Kumar stood third in On the Spot Elocution Competition.
Earlier, the Programme began by lighting of the Ceremonial Lamp by the dignitaries and welcome song by the students of the campus.
The welcome address was delivered by Dr Rajinder Lal, Assistant Professor, Physical Education, whereas the vote of thanks was presented by Dr Prabhat Kumar Mohapatra, Head of the Department of Jyotish.
The Programme was conducted by Dr Sanjay Kumar Mishra and Dr Yogendra Kumar Dixit.
