Horizon CC wins Winter Shield T20 Cup

JAMMU, Apr 24: Commissioner Secretary Youth Services and Sports, Sarmad Hafeez presented trophies and other prizes to the winners and runners-up teams of the Winter Shield T20 Cricket Cup, organised by State Cricket Academy (SCA), Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council at Parade ground, here.
While Mr Sarmad was the chief guest on the valedictory function, Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman, Director General Youth Services and Sports and Dr Naseem Javaid Choudhary were the guests of honour.
Ranjeet Kalra, ace Sports Administrator and Advisor for Sports and Youth Affairs to Lt Governor of Lakshadweep also graced the occasion and appreciated the initiative of SCA, while prominent amonth others present on the occasion were Mubhashir Hasan, Director, State Cricket
Academy; Ravi Singh, Divisional Sports Officer J&K State Sports Council; Coordinators Rajesh Dhar and Rajesh Gill, former Ranji Trophy Player, besides Coaches and Managers of J&K State Sports Council.
The chief guest and the other dignitaries interacted with the players on the occasion and assured them of holding more such events in future.
Earlier, in the final match, Horizon Cricket Club defeated Simula Cricket Club by 8 wickets.
Winning the toss and batting first, Simula Cricket Club scored 162 runs in the allotted 20 overs, losing 7 wickets in the process. Hinan top scored with 61 runs, while Shashi contributed 50 runs and Atul chipped in with 13 runs. From Horizon Cricket Club, Manik took 3 important wickets, while Nawaz and Shohab claimed 2 wickets each.
In reply, Horizon CC chased the target in 14 overs losing 2 wickets, thus won the match by 8 wickets. Lakhan was the top scorer with unbeaten 80 runs, Nawaz and Majid contributed 31 and 26 runs to the toal. From Simula Cricket Club, Raman Dutta and Ritik shared 1 wicket each. Lakhan was declared as the man of match in the final and was presented with a cheque of Rs 2000 besides a trophy. Akhil was adjudged as the best batsmen and was presented a cheque of Rs 2000 and trophy, while Kuldeep Kumar was declared as the best bowler to receive a cheque of Rs 2000 and trophy. Shashi Kumar got the man of the series award to receive a cheque of Rs 3000 and a trophy.
The winners were presented a cheque of Rs 20,000 and a trophy by the chief guest and other dignitaries, while the runners-up got a cheque of Rs 10000 besides a trophy.
The match was officiated by Vijay Raina, Dyal Singh and Janu, while the
proceedings of the valedictory function were conducted by commentator Rajesh Dhar.
