Sasan seeks one time settlement of PoK refugees, MC for Sikhs

JAMMU, Feb 4:  Provincial vice president of National Conference Jammu, Gurdeep Singh Sasan today urged the Governor N N Vohra for pursuing with Centre the issue with regard to one time settlement of PoK refugees as recommended by the Omar Abdullah led Government.
Addressing prominent persons of the Sikh community, Mr Sasan made a passionate appeal to the Governor for taking up case pertaining to one time settlement package of Rs 25 lakhs sanctioned per family so that their problems are addressed to some extent.
Mr Sasan lambasted PDP-BJP dispensation for backstabbing the PoK refugees and sabotaging the package, saying this has exposed their hypocrisy on promises made during the elections. He castigated the duo for deceiving the PoK refugees by failing to constitute Jammu and Kashmir Welfare and Development Board for the PoK refugees.
The provincial vice president reiterated the demand for the grant of minority status to Sikh community and hoped that formation of a Minority Commission (MC) will help in mitigating their problems. “With this, the Sikh community will also benefit from the schemes sponsored by the Centre for socio-economic upliftment and empowerment of the minorities. He sought due representation of Sikhs in various statutory bodies besides professional colleges and Government departments. He demanded transport to be declared as Industry, saying this will go a long way in mitigating the problems of those engaged with this sector.
Sasan  urged the community members to strengthen the hands of Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah who are committed to welfare of all irrespective of caste, creed, colour, region or religion. He said  that  NC is  the  only  party  which  upholds  the  democratic, secular and  social  values.
Others, who spoke on the occasion,   included Capt Pritpal Singh, Dalip Singh, Jaguar  Singh, Prof  Joginder  Singh,  Surinsar  Singh  Advocate, Col   Rattan Singh, Dr  Swaran  Singh, Prof Harjinder ,  Baldev Singh   and  Hardev Singh.
