JAMMU, July 5: Magnificent 55 runs and three wickets haul by Satish Kumar helped Tanishta Club Jammu to smash Singh Cricket Club (SCC) Akhnoor in the summit clash and to lift the title trophy of the 8th Pawan Memorial Cricket Tourney, being organized by Singh Cricket Club (SCC) Akhnoor and AYC Akhnoor at Government Higher Secondary School, Akhnoor, here today.
Batting first, SCC Akhnoor made 145 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in allotted 20 overs. Samadh played a splendid inning of 61 runs off 42 balls, while Sourav Singh scored 21 runs in 10 balls and Jimmy chipped in 13 runs in 5 balls.
From Tanishta Club side, Satish scalped 3 wickets, while Aman Singh took 2 wickets. Raman and Vishavjeet clinched one wicket each.
In the second inning, Tanishta Club Jammu chased the target for the loss of 7 wickets in 15.5 overs. Satish made 55 runs off 47 balls and remained not out, while Minkal made 26 runs in 10 balls. Harsh contributed with 21 runs in 10 balls.
From SCC Akhnoor side, Arshadh Shiekh took 3 wickets, while Irfan scalped 2 wickets. Sourav and Rakesh pocketed one wicket apiece.
Satish Kumar of Tanishta Club Jammu was adjudged as Man of the Match for his all round performance, while Sonu clinched Man of the Series title. Best All Rounder award was presented to Vinod Mangotra.
The match was officiated by Vikas Bali and Joginder Mangotra as umpires, while Ashwani Mangotra acted as scorer.
On the valedictory function, Senior Vice President JKPCC and Former Minister Sham Lal Sharma was the chief guest, who distributed Rs 25,000 and Rs 15,000 cash prizes to winner and runner-up teams respectively in presence of Zorawar Singh Jamwal, Chairman, Team Jammu, who was guest of honour on the occasion.
Chetan Wanchoo, National Coordinator IYC and Spokesperson JKPYC, Subash Langer, Convener, Naresh Dutt AYC President Akhnoor, Aman Gupta, Ex-president Akhnoor, Kuldeep Kour, Tilak Raj, Krishan Bakshi, Davinder Chanan, Raman Gupta, DN Abrol, Om Mehta, KD Sharma, Ashok Kumar, Shiv Parkash, Kewal Kumar, Vinod Kumar, Tinnu, Ankush Sharma and Rahul Sharma were also present.
Sharma on behalf of SCC Akhnoor also awarded the veteran cricketers of the Akhnoor tehsil namely Dr Ramesh Kashav, Krishan Bakshi and Bishan Mangotra
While speaking, Sharma asked the gathering including players to stay away from drugs and devote their time in games. Sham highlighted the importance of holding such sports events to nurture the local talent and encourage sports activities in the State.
“You are our future and you have to lead from the front and show the way. In your empowerment our future lies. Your skills and imagination hold key to the states prosperity”, Sham Lal said while encouraging the players.
He added that sports also provide opportunity to develop friendly relations with the people and emphasized the need for large scale participation of youth in sports activities.
He said event is aimed to promote young talent and provide them platform to show and explore their hidden talent.
The tournament was organized under the supervision of Sham Singh Langeh, President, Singh Cricket Club (SCC) Akhnoor.
