Sir,
It is quite painful to learn that over 22,000 rare Pashmina goats have died in far flung areas of Ladakh division due to scarcity of fodder.
More stocking is that no assistance has been extended to these people cut off from rest of the world during this period.
Pashmina goat is a source of livelihood to these people as they have no other way to earn their livelihood. No Government jobs, no land to till, no factories and no other source which can secure a square meal.
Though LAHDC has provided them some immediate relief, it is not sufficient to make good their loss. They should be duly compensated for this loss. However, this tragedy should be an example before the authorities to enable them meet such eventualities in the future.
Special centres should be opened in the area where provisions for medical assistances fodder and research facilities are available for this kind of species.
Yours etc….
